the first attempt to fly failed

The horizon await in the blue sky
the little bird learns to fly
with the clouds it dreams to be
to fly in the wind its wings free

the day did dawn for the bird to fly
wings fluttering to rise in the sky
watching mother wait on a tree
a birds first flight to be free

tis a trial the natures test
man or animal from safetys nest
the young bird on its first flight
death inΒ  failure to fight

with fluttering wings the bird doth try
leaving the tree no remorse no tear to cry
failure to fly a death certain
in the preys hand a final curtain

soaring down wings bearing its weight
the cloulds fade in spiralling sight
the wings beat strong and fast
seconds of time an eternity to last

in times torment and shame failure bring
look to the sky to hear a bird sing
a poetry written on the sky blue
the first flight of birds that flew

I agree with everyone, beautiful poem MJ,
a fitting tribute to the wonder of flight for such small creatures, what a test it must be, and to finally fly free…

Many little flying critters don’t do so well on their first flight, yet they make the attempt despite having any training. They have to. I read that little birds take to the sky for safety reasons because a nest of noisy baby birds is not a safe nest.. but very vunerable to predators. Once the nest is discovered, the predator such as a raccoon or squirrel, etc. will eat the whole lot and all the adults efforts would have been for nothing. Uuugh! So that is why momma and poppa birds work hard to raise their young fast and get them out of the nest just as soon as possible.

    • SethPopowich says:

Hey… that’s kind of how I raise my kids!!!!!

      • SethPopowich says:

It’s important to also note that the momma and poppa birds don’t necessarily ‘teach’ the young ones to fly, it’s an inborn skill, they don’t need to learn. Hhhmmmmm?! I wonder why young humans don’t have that ‘gotta leave home now’ inborn in them? They should have it!!! πŸ™‚
