When a village disappears.

Doel a village on the Schelde. A lovely small village . Since years the inhabitants are asked to leave the village.
Not easy when you have lived your whole life there until then. The village must disappear to expand the port of Antwerp.
It’s like a ghost town now. Empty homes and daubed with slogans.Currently there live  8 persons. These are young people with a purpose
But unfortunately. It will happen …The village Doel disappears.
When we passed this house i saw this beautiful drawing.
The mill is a restaurant,
The only place thats still alive  in Doel at the moment  Oh  Yes and the 8  survivors.
This is the place where we can take a boatride to the other side of the schelde.

Wolfy I heard they want to start again in Japan??

  9. Yes this we call progress.. a small village had to be evacuated as they flooded the valley to build a reservoir around 12 miles from where I used to live. The only thing for years when the dam was running low in drought was the church steeple. Divers used to swim out and ring the bell, eventually they had to demolish the steeple as it was dangerous as it attracted swimmers who would dare to ring the bell..
A sad day for those who have lived there all their lives..Thank you for sharing Sue x
