The Sri Lankan Projects.

Sri Lanka 2013 mei/juni ( English)

With a good feeling  we left Belgium on Monday 27 May.Direction Zaventem airport. From the moment I close the front door behind me I have one thought ….. direction East.
After 2 perfect flights we arrive in the morning, and as always we call our first friends.
The same afternoon we went to an orphanage for girls in Balapitiya. We meet a Dutch girl who was there for 2 months. I have huge respect for her.  After consultation, we decided to buy dry food. This is always the best because perishable things is not advisable.
Everything is officia.. As you see can see I put a signature under the amounts we have spent.
When we leave the girls sing a beautiful song. Tx girls.
We went to our friends from previous  projects we give them a basic food package. Is a sign of  We are still thinking of you.
The orphanage for boys in Balapitiya.
It is the 3rd time and I had the feeling that those kids are still the same.DSCN8476
The same smiles.
For them I had some plastic backpacks of the Old Fortis bank Belgium. We bought sheets for their bed. The ladies of the  local shop had to make them  because there was not enough in stock.
And the lady who runs the orphanage was in need of a blender. We purchased  a solid one not that plastic stuff. Every morning, she makes a vitamin-rich juice  for the kids.
We walk in Aluthgama and there comes a lady and a man in a wheelchair. We know them  We met already a lot of times. Etienne with his white hair attracts the attention I think. Anyway we buy that man and his wify as always a food package. And then he pointed to his tyres. As slick as an eel.
Okay we buy new bicycle tires. And see his face..
School Singharupagama
Last time we made  a toilet.  Still as clean as day one.  Tx  Teachers.!!Now for each child a backpack with writing materials, notebooks etc. Samanlal has helped us for 43 kids we have to buy so he managed to make it a bit cheaper. (TxSamanlal)
Counting and counting. Suppose you miss one… We always have a few on reserve.
he school in Aluthgama.
We have bought a clock and innumerable teaching materials. Also a whiteboard.
It was the 1st time for the teacher that she DSCN8505got something. I think the parents are super content.
This is one of my favorite photos. It gives a lot of fun.
And for the rest we are ON HOLD  ( Due to extreme bad weather)
A kitchenette for the widow ..we are going to build as the weather permits. It is extremely bad at the moment. So we better take no risk that cement becomes concrete  before it’s out of the bag. Everything is paid and is on call.Suresh and his men are ready.
Photographs follow.
My lady friend Chamaree has the last project in her hands now. (Mount Lavinia) a refrigerator for the mothers with kids (care) (had no fridge you can imagine with babies )
And for the the children with Down (Mount Lavinia) we bought paint, brushes and canvas. They have a project they sell paintings made by them. This is a fantastic project. They paint and i may hope they can sell some.
Photographs follow.
We thank everyone who has helped us in anyway to allow us to do this.
Etienne and Marij van Goethem.
To be continued  I will post also abt the tourist feelings we had.

tx it feels so good to be there. Everytime we go we feel at home.
Now with so many unemployed ppl we felt that the life circumstances become harder and harder for everyone. Its not easy when imagine after that cyclone more than 50 fishermen died. and a lot still missing. What becomes of their family. Since last time we went we know that more ppl have trouble to find a way to feed kids mouths every day
      tx again
      a tight huggy.MJ

Yet again you spread a little magic where it is needed! 🙂

I dream of doing such things, but alas I can do so little for those around me… 😦

Love and hugs my wonderful friend and God Bless You and Yours!

We have the possibility to go and we both like it so much . And we realise that we have a good life..We dont have kids. So why not do something for the ones who are not that lucky in life.
But I know one thing..The kids have so much respect. Its a special feeling.
      Lots of love for u

Wonderful photo’s Sweeti, and the smiles of the ones you are helping show how much they appreciate all that you and your fellow helpers are doing. I feel so ashamed, I give to many charities but you are on the front line, helping where it is most needed. This is such an uplifting blog my friend, giving such a feel good factor, letting us know that there are so many lovely people out there, such as you, willing to give of their time and themselves. As Sue and Sir Prenin say, you are amazing, and it is a pleasure to know you. hugs aplenty. xPenx

we know that we are blessed that we can do this. We feel so good there.
My husband and me we think the same abt this.
We do this just me and my husband with help from ppl there.
we are so lucky U know the guy who is helping us always, is without a job and he always gives us names of ppl to help. He forgets himself.
thats such a special feeling. But we wont forget him and his family of course.
they give eventhough they dont have much.
and with a smile.Typical sri lankan.

i love the country more then my own.

  4. What you do is awesome and amazing and the same words describe you too 🙂 The smiles on those little boys faces are enough to light the darkest of days with dazzling sunlight, and the look on that man’s face you bought the bike tires for is priceless. You bring so much happiness to so many people. You’re one of those people who light up the world 🙂 x
