a small intro abt the city Ieper.(Ypres)
Ypres occupied a strategic position during World War I because it stood in the path of Germany’s planned sweep across the rest of Belgium and into France from the north (the Schlieffen Plan). The neutrality of Belgium was guaranteed by Britain; Germany’s invasion of Belgium brought the British Empire into the war. The German army surrounded the city on three sides, bombarding it throughout much of the war. To counterattack, British, French, and allied forces made costly advances from the Ypres Salient into the German lines on the surrounding hills.
2014 WW 1 has started (hundred years ago remembering the war.
When we drove home i was thinking what was the most impressive . The flanders field Museum with the terrible stories from the battlefields around Ypres?
The BC Tyne Cot in Passendaal?
Maybe the French military cemetery Saint-Charles de Potyze. Hmm maybe the trenches.
Or The Last Post.?
Every night at 8Pm .They play the last post and read the namens of the fallen of that date. The Menen gate is loaded with people like you and me.
Its more then 30000 times that the LAST POST makes ppl think and say….
NEVER AGAIN ( no more war )
